C4 Architects designed a modern Adelaide townhome that feels open and light, provides generous space for a growing family, and responds carefully to local planning requirements within an area rich in heritage-listed homes.

Design approach
Our clients wanted a modern townhome that could comfortably accommodate their growing family. Set on Palmerston Road in Unley, among a number of heritage-listed houses, the project needed to balance contemporary living with the character and planning requirements of its streetscape.
To help the new build sit comfortably within its heritage setting, we recycled stone from the original house and used it to complement the surrounding older homes. This approach helped the design respond respectfully to its context while meeting local council requirements.
Inside, we maximised natural light and ventilation through highlight windows and large sliding doors that open onto the courtyard garden beyond – one of the clients’ favourite features of the home.
